Harder Than I Thought
So I started the ball rolling with my writing. I began writing thoughts and points I wanted to be sure to include. I gathered some pictures for inspiration. I’ve been listening to podcasts about how others have put their notes into action.
And now I’m stuck.
I can’t decide the direction I want to go with my children’s book. There are so many ways to take it. It could be a straight read-through story, a split-perspective approach, interactive storybook, or something entirely different. I suppose I could try it each way and see which feels the best.
This week will likely include a lot of reflection about how I would want to read the story to others, how I feel when I read similar styles, and which might make the best impact for the message I’m hoping to convey.
What is that message? What am I even planning to write about you ask? Family. Memories. Sharing experiences & carrying on qualities that I admired and helped shape me. Hopefully even some perspective on our thinking in childhood vs. adulthood.
I’m just going to go with my gut first and pick the style I’m thinking will work, then start. If it doesn’t seem to flow right or make sense, I’ll try it a few other ways. I’ll use my kids as test subjects.
This almost feels like decorating. Choosing a path or directional theme is tricky for me. It’s probably why my house isn’t decorated and I’ve only now begun writing!
