Why I Started Homeschooling

COVID

Yep, that was the main reason.

I’ve always wanted to be able to homeschool, yet I also knew that the social aspect of school was important to my kids. Heck, it helped me make friends too! My husband was not really a big supporter of homeschooling, but only because he wanted the kids and I to have lives that weren't so intertwined. We all needed to gain some independence. Honestly, we also didn’t want awkward homeschool kids…so the trick of keeping them socially engaged was an issue.

Well, COVID started the change, and moving halfway across the country during a pandemic has continued it. We didn’t even have to worry about the extracurriculars and social meetups since no one was getting together! It really gave us a chance to settle in and figure this homeschool thing out together.

You know that whole one-room school house concept? Yeah that was my original vision before I had kids. (I thank my grandfather for that one because I had a really cool school desk as a kid.) Well, 2 kids don’t need a whole school house, just a room. And you know what I learned? They don’t even want to be in the same room together most of the time! Ha!
